The original school building is now the Resource Centre

On 30 October 1880 a public meeting was held at the home of Herbert Shum, Spring Creek, Drayton for the purpose of establishing a State School in the district. At this meeting the following were elected members of a Building Committee: Gottlieb Reithmuller, Hebert Shum (secretary), Thomas Sullivan, Mathew Shepard, Will Tedford, William McGrath, Eruish Reithmuller, Patrick Hogan, Jacob Reithmuller, Henry Baker, William Crawford and David Laur. ( 1-2)

The district Inspector,  J. Kilham, visited the district on the 2 March1881, wrote the following report:

I have the honour to report the I visited Spring Creek on Friday 25th and inspected four sites for the proposed school at Glenvale.

As there are 80 children of school age within the radius of 2 miles from the proposed site, it will be necessary to establish a State School for the accommodation of about 60 children in average attendance.

At first the inhabitants were divided into to parties, one wishing for the site marked No 1 of allotment 24, in the accompanying tracing ; the other wanting the corner block marked No 2 in allotment 242. Both sites are good and centrally situated on the slope of a ridge which commands a view of the whole neighbourhood. As No 2 contains 10 acres which would cost $100 , it was ultimately agreed to prevent delay.
